Arc Light bombing run
"Arc Light" was the name given to a B52 bomber dropping its load on the enemy.
A couple of times we had an Arc Light just to our north. We would advise all aircraft in the area of the impending strike (we'd been alerted beforehand). Even though we knew where they would hit, and at what time, we could not see the planes since they were so high.
That is why Arc Light was such a terror to the enemy troops. A devastating carpet bomb attack would happen out of nowhere - no warning.
For comparison, see how much smoke an Arc Light produces over a large area, then see what an EOD explosion looks like.
