Detailed Maps of Viet Nam - Jim Henthorn
To find Dak To, keep in mind that Dak To is just to the east of where Cambodia and Laos meet at the Vietnam border (sometimes referred to as the "tri-border" region). In the map, click on the map where the borders join. Then click anywhere on the next map. Then, click on the top-right map in the next window. Scroll down until you see hwy "512" in a white circle, then move right (east) to Dak To and n/s hwy 14. Look for hill numbers, like 1338, south of Dak To. Hills were named by their altitude in meters on the map. |
And there is my topographical map of the Dak To area. Go to the bottom of the Airfield Landmarks & Map page. It has most sites marked.
Google Earth Placemarks
If you have Google Earth installed on your desktop computer (it is free), you can use the placemarks below to view the locations around Dak To as they are today. Included in the placemarks are map overlays that you can fade in/out to view the underlying terrain. With Google Earth on your desktop, you can zoom and tilt to view the terrain better. You can also exaggerate the vertical to make the hills stand out. In several ways, using the desktop version of Google Earth, as opposed to the Google Maps version (a link is in the list above) can give you a better idea of the terrain around Dak To. Of course, the Google Maps version presented above also has a number of advantages. I suggest you try it both ways.
If you are new to Google Earth, you'll want to spend some time learning how to fade an overlay image, etc. It will be worth it.
