Fuel Fire
When we began operations, a refueling station was set up alongside the Ramp. Eventually we would have 3 refueling stations around the airfield for the helicopters.
A refueling station would have several large fuel bladders, sitting in trenches to guard against spills. It would also have a pump, run by a gasoline engine. Several times during my time here, a pump would catch fire and set one or more bladders ablaze.
These photos are of the refueling station on the Ramp, directly across from our tower site. I don't know if this is one fire. We had at least two at this refueling station. By the way, we would refer to a refueling station as a P.O.L. Stands for Petroleum, Oils, Lubricants.
