Shooting Range
When the French built this runway, they also built a very nice shooting range on the north side of the airfield.
They built a concrete-sided trench where men could stay sheltered from gunfire while they changed targets. In the second photo, a blow up of the first, you can see where the dirt has been shot away from the front of the trench, exposing the concrete.
We only used this range for trying out our weapons, and after the airfield attack we had a couple C130 engines to shoot at with our M79 grenade launcher.
