Battles / Action at Dak To - 1966 to 1969
I spent my time at Dak To from June 1967 to March 1968, during the "Battle of the Slopes" and "Hill 875".
All of the photos and documents I have contributed, along with many from fellow soldiers, cover this time period.
There were other engagements, or battles, that took place at or near Dak To:
Operation Hawthorne was conducted out of Dak To 1 airstrip, in 1966, from June 2 to June 20.
Operation Greeley was conducted out of both Dak To 1 and Dak To 2 (the main airfield) from June 17 to October 11, 1967. The "Battle of the Slopes" was part of this operation.
Operation MacArthur wase conducted out of Dak To 2 airfield from October 11, 1967 to January 31, 1968. The "November Action Hills 823, 875" was part of this operation.
In the spring/summer of 1969 the "Defenders of Dak To" battle was an attack on the Dak To 2 airstrip, defended by the 299th Engineers.
The "Battle of Kontum" also occurred in 1969, with action around Dak To.
There was also action at Special Forces camps in the general area, which I also want to document here. Dak Pek and Dak Seang saw action in 1966 to 1968 while Ben Het saw action in 1967 to 1969.
Ben Het saw a lot of action during several battles. It was about 13 miles west of Dak To
Dak Seang was north of Dak To.
Dak Pek was further north of Dak To.
References to these battles and sites are scattered throughout this website, with both stories and photos.
I'll try to document these other places & times in this menu branch.
