Ernie,
[On Nov. 15, 1967] I was refueling across from the apron, when we saw what we thought were rocks being thrown. I told my co-pilot that whoever was throwing those rocks had a really good arm. They were bouncing across the runway and hitting the sand bags in front of us. Then they hit the wing on the C130 and we realized they were not rocks. I told the crew chief to close the fuel tank because we were leaving, all the helicopters took off like a covey of quail. I called the tower at Pleiku and asked that they send the Huskey up with his water bucket. Pleiku told us to piss on the fire because that would do as much good as the Huskey.
You have done a great job putting you web site together. Thanks for a great job.
I have tried to find some pictures of the planes and ammo dump fire for years. Late that afternoon I flew a reporter over the fires (CBS I think) but have never been able to get any copies. I had been parked behind your picture a20(below left). When I returned to Dak To, a piece of shrapnel about 6"x48" was laying between my skid marks. I have a picture from on the ground of your picture a 47(below right).
Thanks again for your effort,
Clarence Moore
