Ernie,
We were the Air Force guys on the ground that day [Nov. 15, when the C130 aircraft were hit]. It was just before Thanksgiving. We were with the 15th Aerial Port Sq. out of Danang. Our tent was right on the corner of the Special Forces camp. Most of us were on the C-130’s when the attack started. I lost everything except my boots and a T-shirt. I had GREAT pictures of the days leading up to the attack. There were only six of us left there that week as we were supposed to rotate soon to Danang then Khe Sanh. Wim Wetzel, Perry Timerson, Skip Hubrich, other names I am sorry but do not remember.
The Special Forces folks came out the back side of their camp and took us inside. There were air crews and ourselves. I remember carrying two cans of 50 cal. ammo up the ladder to the tower with only my chest bumping against the ladder and hands full.
Many of us lost friends that day. May they Rest in Peace.
